Default New Scrambler - couple maintenance Questions

I was looking for some advice, i have put about 8 hours on my machine....Dealer said don't need to service anything till 20 hrs. I'm thinkin I should at least change the oil soon, and perhaps clean the chain every 10 hours....Just learning so any advice on proper maintentance would be appreciated....Also how often do i change air filter. I will probably buy a K&N when it is due for a change, or should I wait untill the machine is correctly broken in.

you shouldnt have to change the oil till 20 hrs, which is polaris' break in point. i like to lube the chain every couple of rides. the air filter you should change when i gets dirty.

Once it has 20 hrs, change fluids and oil filter, replace stock air filter with K&N, check all bolts on tires, and any other loose parts(Just to be safe). You will notice the engine and clutching will make more noise as it gets broke in, this is normal. As for using the chain lube, its not much for a can of polaris O-ring chain lube and it lasts along time. I spray down my chain after every ride. I usualy ride every other weekend though. If you ride more than that, just use it anytime your chain gets water on it. As for after break in, I check my fluids the night before every ride, and the bolts every other ride. If I go through alot of water, I will check the fluids again when I get home to make sure there is no water in the oils. I have been changing my oil 2 times a year, and all my fluids once a year, usualy right before it starts to get cold(sept.-Oct.). I have found lugs on the rear tires that became loose and I could turn them by hand. That is why I check my bolts every other ride.

It may seem like overkill, But I didn't pay $6000 for a quad to get put in the shop for repairs all the time. There is usualy a cause for everything that happens. My 1994 Chevy S-10 has over 200,000 miles and I still drive it to work every day(around 95 miles round trip) and have never had a problem. It still runs like a champ.

YEAH CHEVY! LOL... 200,000 miles, i didnt even think a chevy could last that long. but i guess with regular tuneups and oil changes anything will last a LONG time. thats why its important to keep up on the maintenance on your quad. do that and you'll be ok
