A little Help Please. Primary Spring Problem on tb250.
#1
I recently installed the HPD Pipe and Matching clutch kit with red/yellow primary, and gold secondary, and weights, on my wifes 04 TB. problem is that she doesnt like it reving that high before the clutch engages. She wants the extra performance just not the high rpm before the clutch engages. Can I change the primary back to stock and leave the rest? what do I need to do to get the thing moving as soon as she hits the gas. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -- Donavon

We have the same setup and I tried everything to get it to work with lower engagment and nothing will work.If you want stock clutching sell the HPD and go with Dynoport pipe. They use stock clutching and make good power.

is that my only option?, I hope not, wish I'd known how it was going to react before buying the kit. Today was the first day she's rode it with the kit and, we do a lot of trail riding, and she is really not comfortable going up hills with it acting this way. Can't blame her though it's really squirley trying to take off on a hillside.

Before I canned the whole setup I would try a couple things first .
I would try a HPD plain spring in place of the red/yellow . If it is to *boggy* off of the take off I would then
give a Polaris brown or a Polaris orange a try .
So much of clutch tuning is personal preference . Believe it or not some poeple want MORE stall and will change to the light blue Polaris spring .
I wouldn't get discouraged just yet .

If you know anyone with a scrambler 400 with a clutch kit, ask them to try there white spring. These come stock in the scrambler 400 but give a nice punch to the trailblazer 250's. Just a thought. I put my stock one in my boys TB and it made a big diff.

Try the EPI pink or maroon spring. It will give the stock engagement but will pull hard from mid to top. I just set up a friends 250 with an AAEN pipe, EPI pink, 50g weights and secondary set at 2-2. I was very impressed with it. Takes off good and pulls hard.

I want to thank everyone for their help on this one. You all are great. Well, I reinstalled to stock primary spring and left the weights and the secondary in, and everything seems to be doing fine. Its back to the stock engagement, and still has a little pep to it. I hope i'm not making some kind of mistake here, Is it going to hurt it leaving it this way?

The only thing I noticed when I did that to mine was that it had a dead spot when taking off.

I think she'll be happy with it. Guess I gotta learn I can't set everything up the way I would like it. It hasn't got any dead spots in it. It's smooth, bout halfway through its acceleration it gets a pretty good surge of power and carries it through the top end. Thanks for all the input.
