Default broken bolt

i was changing the fluids today in my 02 scrambler 400 2x4 and i pulled this one plug out. it was smaller than normal and it looked like a bleeder screw with a hole going down the center and 2 holes on the sides. well, i was putting it back in and it broke off. i was able to get it out with a flathead screwdriver and replaced it with a solid plug. from what i could find i think i figured it out as the counter balance shaft drain plug. i have 3 part numbers here for 3 types of plugs from polaris. i have no clue which number i need. the plug was right above the starter with a 10MM head and a phillips center. i put that solid plug in there just so the oil wouldnt leak out for a tempoary thing. do i need that special plug? and if i do, which part number is it? i went to parts.polarisind.com, and theres 3 plugs on the bottom of the crank case. any help will be appreciated... thanks.

You may have to take the broken piece to the dealer and let them look at it hopefully they can tell you exactly what you need. Another option would be to buy all three if they are not too expensive.

If you've got a screw that fits in and doesn't leak or come loose, I wouldn't bother replacing it. The original bolt is just a bleeder bolt, which is useless when trying to drain oil (too viscous)... they're really intended for applications like the one on the cylinder head that bleeds the cooling system (i.e. for letting air and water through). I think Polaris just put them in because they fit!

The design is crap for anything that needs slightly high torque, as they are naturally so weak!

ok cool. thanks guys. i figured it was just a bleeder screw of some kind. but i wanted to make sure before i ran the quad with a solid screw up in there. i didnt know if i'd be restricting oil flow to something else. well, thanks.
