About all I can think of is the following:
shed some weight
12" aluminum rear wheels
aluminum front wheels
preload adjustable front suspension
5 speed option
As for shifting-on-the-fly, you already can do that. I did it on our Sportsman all the time. You just have to be very sure of how to do it. If I was in low range and needed to go to high, I would just let the engine's rpms drop to an idle, and then shift out of low and into high, it worked slick. Don't go from high to low though unless you're going incredibly slow.
