Default A New Electrical Gremlin

Well, at least new for me. I rode my wheeler yesterday, and everything was fine. It's an '02 Sportsman 400, by the way. Anyways today it couldn't start it with the key. So I pull started it. Ran fine and all, but the speedo and odomertor didn't come on. The taillight and headlights work when it's running. I replaced all the circut breakers with fuses a couple years ago, and they where all good. Then I pull started it again, the fan ran, everything lit up, speedo, odometer and all, then it all quit again. I'm not sure what to think. I put a charger on the battery for a while. Well my winch works fine, but still the same old story with everything else. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any info.

When you say it wouldnt start do you mean it would not turn over or it would turn but not fire.

It won't turn over. It's like the battery is dead, except my winch still works. So I don't know what the hell to think.

I had a very similar problem with my scrambler. I could pull start it but not use the key. I don't have any acessories but the headlight wouldn't work when I pull started it either. Then I noticed one night, that the light would come on if I turned to the right and go off if I turned to the left. Long story short after tearing into all of the wiring under the nose piece I traced it up to the kill switch. the wiring plugsinto the box with a locking clip. The clip wasn't locked in so it could unplug itself. Almost a month of head scratching and about an hour with a volt meter came down to pushing in a clip on the handlebars.

I hope you are so lucky.

Figured it out Saturday. I had a broken wire coming off the starter solinoid. Hard to believe that one little wire could be such a problem, but easy fix. Glad it was nothing major. Thanks for all the feedback.
