Default Front end Clunk???

I have this clunk in the front end of my Sportsman that I can't seem to pin point. It happens when the strut comes to the top on the up stroke. If I grab the front bumper and pull up when the struts are fully extended it clunks and when riding I can feel it in the handle bars when it does it. Checked the struts and they are tight, ball joints are good even thought it might be the steering post bushing but I need someone to bounce the front end to see. Any ideas?????

Default Front end Clunk???

Well had everything apart today, A arms greased and checked bushings, ball joint good, top of struts greased and added spacer to tighten up everything and it seems to come down to the left strut. At full up stroke it bangs as if there was no stopper. I don't remember any posts of anyone losing a strut....

my 2000 400xploder was doing what sounds like the same thing ,it turned out to be a broken strut ,when I took it out the rod fell right out of the cartridge .

When installing spring spacers, remember that the struts are only so tall. Compressing the spring by 1.75" without bringing the struts up by at least 1" will cause the struts to "top out" as the wheels drop down after a bump. This causes one hell of a knocking noise from the front, almost all the time, even under normal driving conditions. BUT, mine are up by the 1" & my cv's are at safe angles, yours may be different, it's up to you & your dealer to determine a safe angle.

Thanks for the responses guys... My spacers are 1.5"(mistake in sig) and I lifted the strut in the housing 1". When I pull up on the right side the right sturt does not bang like it hits a rubber stop but pull up on the left side and it's like there is no rubber stop in there and it hits with a bang. Guess I'll have to pull it apart. It should not bang at all because even with out a lift there would be times where the front would come off the ground extending the strut fully. There should be a rubber stopper in the strut to prevent this I would think....
