The 05 800 (and others I think)had the promo
"BUY BEFORE DECMEMBER AND GET ANOTHER 6 MONTH WARRANTY"
Remember that??
So I buy the bike @ 11-23-04,and get the 1 yr warranty.
Then in june when the origial 6months is up they offer you the EXTENDED plan(now I know alot of you say dont get it,spend your money on the repairs yourself, but it's saved me big on the 500 HO and my dealer works with me).
So I buy the 4yr with 0 deductible, which should take me to 12-23-09 because I still have the extended 6 months that came with the promo.
BUT thats not how it works.
That 6 month promo is VOID when you buy the extended.
So basically you only get a 42 month warranty.
Therefor the warranty is good till 6-23-05

I just got off the phone with them and thier words were
THATS THE WAY IT IS
Just thought I'd pass this on

Yes that would be normal for an extended warranty. The extended warranty company which is not owned buy Polaris although all info you recieve from them may make it seem like they do, does not want to warranty a 4 1/2 year old machine.

I had the same deal on a factory certified (or whatever) Taurus I bought a couple of years ago.

IF the machine is properly cared for, 6 months is all u really need. Yer pissed about the rims, & are lookin for other things to feed your anger....let it go man, life's too short.

"THAT'S THE WAY IT IS" as they say.

the GM extended warranty works the same way. if you buy a new GM whatever and buy a 4yr GMPP (general motors protection plan) you really only bought ONE year of coverage. your factory warranty is 3yr/36K.

so what people should do is wait 'till the 3/36 has ALMOST ended, THEN buy the extended warranty.

it's commonplace for EW to start at the time of purchase.

this one can't be blamed on Polaris.

Ditto... The extended warranties are usually "x amount of time" from date of purchase. So if you buy 60 month warranty, whether your factory warranty was 6 mos, or 24 months, the 60 month warranty is still only good for 60 mos.

There are a few exceptions. Western Service Contract does warranties on top of the factory warranty. Meaning 24 month, 48, etc, ON TOP of factory warranty. But they are the only one I've seen like that.

Just about all warranties work in similar ways, a case in point. I bought a new air conditioner, with a 5 year warranty on the compressor in 1998. Two months before the warranty ran out the compressor went out. I called the installing company to replace the faulty compressor, which they did, but I had to pay labor (the warranty only covered the compressor). You'd think that one got a new 5 year warranty, but no, the original warranty was still in effect, so I had just 2 month left, on a new compressor.

B-T-W, I never buy extended warranties, they rarely pay for themselves. Another case in point, I bought a new 1992 Ford Explorer, and bought the extended warranty (5 years, or 100,000 miles) for $1500.00. In the warranty period, there was one repair done which would have cost me $400.00, so it wasn't worth it to me. In 2000 I bought a new Ford Expedition, the dealership wanted $2500.00 with a $250.00 deductible on it for the extended warranty, I declined. I have almost 90,000 miles on the Expedition now with no repairs on it, so that wouldn't have been worth it to me either. Even if I blow an engine or a transmission, it would be cheaper to replace them for under $2500.00.

Just my .02 cents.
