04 sportsman 400 electrical problem
#1
Hey guys whats up? I ran into an electrical problem and hope someone can help me out. I have a 2004 sptsman 400 the other day I was out riding through some water nothing deep but I was moving pretty good and water was going everywhere. About a half an hour after I was finished with the creek I was just doing some light trail riding and the bike just shut off. When you had the key in the run position the LED display does not work the lights do not work and it will not crank. I jumped the solenoid wires to see if maybe the starter wires or something and the bike cranked over just fine but it won't run because I have no power to the display panel ???????????? any suggestions?

See if I'm right here, there is a fuse link in the main harness on the inside frame near the battery, lightly tug on the wires here, u should find one corroded, or it might just have a breaker that won't reset.

Another place to check is your sparkplug wire. Polaris had a recall on these machines because the sparkplug wire was pinched between the gas tank and a metal component ( brake hydraulics distributor block if I remember right ) on MANY that were built. It eventually wears away the wire and it shorts out. You then need to get a new wire/coil assembly installed. It's a factory recall item and will be done by the dealer free of charge. I know because mine died this way with only about 25 hours on it. If you haven't already.....check it out. Follow the sparkplug wire by hand up behind the gas tank and feel if it's being pinched/jambed between the two. It's difficult to see.
I'm not saying that this is your problem........but if you didn't already know about it then you should definately check it out.
