Anybody gotta clue why if my bud buy"s a 2005 500 HO here in Grundy Va he has to pay 6300.00 same price any dealer within 100
miles also...but I can go 3hrs. down the road to Ohio or Chattanooga Tn and buy the same quad for 5300.00? Is there a different price for dealers which move more stuff for polaris or are we getting reemed because we try to buy local?these are actual out the door prices no
hidden surprises.......

The reason the other dealers are selling for less, IMO, is that they are going for volume and the ATV business is not their main business. So they can sell at cost or below, and take profit from accessories and OEM kickbacks and rebates. You'll see this more often at the "powersports" franchise dealers than you will at independant dealers,
My understanding from what a salesman at Chattanooga southern power sports told me is that the owner has several car dealerships and the ATV/Motorcycle store is a side business. Whether that is true or not I don't know. However, its clear that their goal/business model is sales volume and low profit. Its more about cash flow, than cash in his bank account. Although, I doubt he has to worry about that.
In any case, If your local dealer charges more and you plan on relying on him for service and parts in the future. Sometimes its worth it to pay more upfront if you have a good local dealer who you know you can rely on and who will take care of you. Again this is my analysis and opinion based on my independant research of these dealers over the past 1 1/2 year.

a lot of volume dealers sell cheaper because they know its easier and usually cheaper to push out 20 atvs per week at $200 profit than it is to sell only 3 or 4 a week at $1000 of profit. If its like car sales, dealers get kick backs from the manufacturer for selling so many. Plus most high volume dealers try harder to sell there service and acceseries rather than just selling the quad. Accesories are a big profit for dealers, and if they sell the quad cheaper you got more money to buy parts for it.

Buy it from the cheapest place you can because all the dealers will do the warranty work if needed and none are going to give you that much of a break on service if something happens after warranty to make up a 1000 difference. better off taking that $1000 saved and get the extended warranty.

A friend of mine and myself looked into starting a Polaris dealership for this very reason. From what we were told, all dealers pay the same thing for the quads. (and it is below MSRP) Shipping can vary accordinly. Polaris sujests the MSRP. Its up to the dealers from there. In Southern Indiana, almost all dealers start with the MSRP and then will add on shipping, handling, dealer set up, dealer clean up, and any other thing they can get away with, then charge tax on all of it!! My friend bought his (2000 sp500) in Indy while I bought mine (2001 sp500ho with winch) from a dealer farther away. I gave almost 1500 less than he did a year before me. Alot of people around me will drive to Ill, or OH to buy because it is so much cheaper. Volume doesn't matter. The largest Polaris dealer within 100 mile of me charges the most. I don't know why people buy from him because it takes about 7200 to get a sp500 from him. If you try and talk him down, you won't get any kind of factory rebate. He just has to say he's not a particapating dealer. Polaris will not do anything about it. Polaris would not give us our dealership because he was within 75 miles and sells so many units. (even after we committed to building a new building and met all other requirments) The only way any of this will change is when people quite buying from these dealers and they have to lower their prices to stay in business. I am not in favor of running people out of business, and I try to buy most things local, but at the same time, I don't just hand my hard earned money away either when I can get the same thing somewhere else alot cheaper!!

Your exactlly right...My friend has a buyer"s quote from Southern Powersports and it"s on there web site as well for $5300.00 out the door for a 2005 500HO
thats 300 miles from us here in Grundy Va...We calledLand and Lake Polaris in Abingdon Va and told him what the quote was and asked if he could come close
taking in accordance we would pay some more to not make the trip....He called my friend back calling him a liar about the price and said If we did buy fro Southern
Powersports he wouldnt Perform service nor warranty work...we faxed him the quote from SP and my friend spoke to him again(kevin is his name} and he acknoweleged
recieving it and still didnt even then wasnt man enough to make amends for his insult..The only thing I can figure that upset him was the fact that after we knew what we could get one for we also knew how much he was "torching people for the same quad"..
Compettion is a good thing,Polaris needs to put another dealer in a block from this guy"s place.......
It seems that the dealer in this area think That us poor stupid country folk "cant do the math"times are a changing...and where learning to read road maps too!
We"llf ind our way to Chattanoogga.....

As I posted earlier on the buying the ATV site.
checking out a local dealer pricing in michigan for a polaris sportsman 800 at 8699 msrp plus tax = 9221 and thats getting them to take off setup fees and the richiepowersport in TN is 7177 with no tax. Thats a $2044 difference. They are near 600 miles away but thats only 250 bucks in gas and figure 100 for hotel so $350 cost plus two days travel time and I would save near $1700. Thats definelely worth the weekend trip. The way I see it I dont make 1700 in two days pay! Its a win win situation. I think the locals better start getting a little competitive.
