Thanks a lot kevin. I don't think I have it. I did find bob's 10-second delay wire, though.

I havent been able to find anything like this and have been looking at the wiring diagram. Reverse is determined by reading a resistance value between two wires from the gear selector sensor. On the new quads there is no reverse light (no clue about a srambler as I havent seen one in years). Reverse is shown using this resitance reading on the digital speedo readout.

On the 05 and 04.5 sportsman there is a switch held on by an E clip on the trans with 5 or 6 wires coming out of it these wires run up to a resistor pack between the motor and transmission from there only one wire (white) goes up to the Speedo the resistance on this wire determines how the gear indicator reads H, L, N, R & P. The switch
is switched through ground The Purple wire coming out of that switch goes low (ground) when in reverse. You can use a 1N4001 diode with the white strip on the diode to the purple wire to a relay to power your reverse lights. I have done this mod and as I recall it is the purple wire double check this to make sure!!!

Thank you!! I was looking at those wires. I will definetly try this with the work lights on the 05 and my reverse lights on my 04.5.

A relay is necessary? The purple wire cannot handle the load?

The Problem with using the switch for the load is when not in reverse the bulb will put +12V DC on the purple wire this in turn
could cause some problems within the resistor network possiably giving false readings on the gear indicator or damage to the computer. A relay would do the same thing without the use of the diode. Using a 1N4001 diode will stop +12V DC coming back through the coil in the relay to the purple wire.

Once again I am assuming it is the purple wire. Double check this as memory may serve me wrong!!!

Thanks! So I wire +12v to lights, the lights' (-) to the diode, and then the diode to the purple (or whichever) wire?

And will this work?

I know enough about electricity to get by, but don't often deal with small components.
