I'm having trouble -- everything works as it should, except when I am in any gear other than reverse, the display does not show any gear info. Obviously, the 12v is getting back through the diode. I will keep messing with it, but any tips in the meantime would help.

 

Ok, I see what is wrong. I think that by just tapping into the purple wire (I just have everything temporarily connected for testing) the 12v goes back both downstream to the sensor (which doesn't care about the 12v) and upstream to the interpreter box. I need to interrupt the purple wire, put the diode on the interpreter box side of my new wire, and wire the other side right to the sensor.

So I have to cut that purple wire between the sensor and the interpreter box?

 

tyler711.........Let us know how you end up. I just did a search for installing a back up light and vvwwllaahh.......a current thread!! I want to hook mine up so it'll work the same way (in reverse AND manually switched).

Well, we are going to have to wait for pol800efi to return. I don't want to do no wire cutting unless I'm sure everything will work right.

Pol800efi, could you give us a brief walkthrough of what you did (where you tapped in, where you placed the stuff, etc.) That would help a lot.

Sorry, I have been away on business.

I believe I actually used two diodes sort of unknowlingly. I will check the wiring tomorrow and let you know how it works.

Have you had a chance to complete this wiring mod? I am also interested in doing it and wondered what your opinion is on the difficulty of installation. It seems to be pretty straightforward, but I am not an electrician by any stretch.
