Default Scrambler 400 "cheapest mod's"???

I have a 1998 Scrambler 400 4x4 [2-stroke] I was wondering what would be the easiest & cheapest way to make the machine run alittle stronger than stock. {jetting etc...} I do not want to give up any reliability.
Thanks for any help!!

How cheap are we talking? A pipe and clutch give you the best bang for your money. You can put a stiffer primary spring for a little extra punch. That's about $20.

RcR stage one. 325.00 bucks shipped. Includes pipe/silencer,jets, filter, and airbox mods. Can't beat a deal like that. That also includes the best customer service in the buisness.

OK...Thanks.
I allso heard that the stock piston will probly take the cylinder skirt with it when it goes. Should I rebuild it know with a wiseco or wait untill it starts to run low on compression?? allso when it's apart does a very mild port job work good on this motor with stock pipe?? What about shaving the head??
Thanks!
PS: Does an after market head pipe really help this motor enough to make a noticable difference???

Yeah I would change out to a Wiseco if you are gonna redo the top end. The stockers do tend to break the skirt. I wasn't sure how cheap of mods or radical you were wanting. The stock pipe doesn't respond to porting all that well. A good trail port with a good pipe will give you around 15-20 hp increase. Shaving the head will bump up the compression and help with overall power. You can shave the head .020 and still run 92 octane fuel.

RCR stage one is the best deal if you want to mod a decent amount. For a cheap mod I would do a clamp on filter and toss the airbox, then a new pipe, after that rejet your carb and enjoy that alone will make a noticeable difference.

well i'm assuming you were running a little rich with stock calibrations,
put a k&n air filter and that is easy and cheap with still reliability.
a set of reeds can help you out to search what you looking for...

replace the piston first. I didn;t and its alot more expensive after the skirt gets ground up in your crank, fortunatly my cases didn't get a hole in them or anything. when its apart have the head shaved 0.020 it makes a good difference.

K&N clamp in is good as well but I see you are a 4X4 so keep in mind you will loose some water protection.
