Clutch help BUBBA

nope I meant a ton of belt side clearance on the primary clutch
today I removed the spider and found a .050 and a .020 shim under it so I took out the .050
but still have about .035 clearance
I measured the belt for wear (used) and it was 1.177 and I measured an new belt at the polaris dealer and it was
1.180 so I didn't bother buying a new one
I don't think it would be recomended not to run any shim and the smallest polaris sells is the .020 that I left in
I was thinking of removing some material from the back of the spider and then having some room to atually work with
OR rooting through my boxes of differential pinion shims to see if I can find a .010 shim that matches up in diameter
that will get me to the max spec and maybe with a new belt It would be ok
I measured a dayco belt at the parts store and it was 1.192 that would get my side clearance into spec but I would have to shim my secondary ro prevent it from creaping when in gear and end up sacrificing the low end clutching!!!!
so I guess I will fiddle with it some more tomorrow!!!!

ok all back together now
seems to be running great ( had a carb issue)
anyways the clutching is as follows
white primary spring
"F" weights 45 grams
violet HPD secondary spring
40/36 HPD helix
1-1 spring tension
NOW it comes out of the hole better than ever before but when I look down at the clutches they are definetly now shifting out
the front os about 2/3 of the way to the top and the secondary is about 1/3 of the way down
any suggestions BUBBA

Do you happen to have a tach to put on it? 45grams is not a lot of weight on the primary. If you have about 3 grams more to put in it then try it first. (I cant find my notes to save my life at the moment)
Also on the belt clearance........ does the primary have a bad worn spot where the belt engages it? That tends to cause harsh engagement and will delay clutch upshifting for a second until the pressure over comes it. You can also go ahead and go lighter on the secondary setting. Since I dont have my info in front of me someone may have to help out here, but I am thinking 2-3 will be the next softest below 1-1, but it may be 1-3. Someone with a book please help out here. (can you tell I havent had a polaris in a year?)

softest setting is helix- 1 -sheave-3 next softest is 1-2 then 2-3 then1-1 heaviest is 2-1 next lightest is 2-2.With out a tach and just shooting for a good run wouldnt a set of 10MBs be about right. That would be close to what a 500 4x4 runs stock.

Brad, at least we're on the same thought there. The 10MB is 47.5 grams, pretty close to 48 huh? I would change those and go to the 2-3 setting on the spring and see what happens. But it does sound like maybe a little more weight and a little softer secondary might help out. Get a tach and hook it up if you can. Might save a lot of time there.

Aaen makes a pipe for the Xplorers. It works well with Cyclone conversion like ours. It can melt the plastic on the side panel, so you will need to add shielding. I am running the stock Cyclone carb 195 MJ needle one notch down from stock and one size up on the pilot. I run at sea level to apx 2500 feet.

ok stock weight for a trailblazer is "G" which weighs 48 grams so tommorrow I'm off to order at the dealer
I have been totally *** backwards on my secondary adjustments I assumed that 1-1 was the lightest!!!!!
I may consider getting a pipe but I checked them out in the royaldistibuting catalog and they run about $700 canadian with the silencer!!

Something don't sound right. Aaen does not even list their pipe, it is a special deal. I think I paid around $250 for pipe and silencer.(american) Remember too, you are basically riding a Cyclone. Think Cyclone clutching and weights to get the right engagements.
