Default 700 Gas vent hose?

On Tuesday, I was getting all of my fluids checked and filled the gas tank. I rode it over to the trailer and loaded up. When I got off, I noticed that there was what appeared to be a leak around the gasket of the front gear case where it bolts up. (on the drive shaft side) The fluid has a gas/oil smell....I really could not distinguish between the two. I know that the gas tank has a vent hose..Is this normal to have gas drain from the vent hose onto the gear case....or do you think that the front gear case could be leaking. I checked the torque on the gear case bolts and everything was ok. If it is the gas......is it normal to have this happen?

Default 700 Gas vent hose?

Man, I have a 2005 700 efi to, and i also had the same thing happen to me. I crawled underneath the bike, and noticed that the rubber hose for the that ties into the gearcase leaks a few drops when the engine gets cranked. I asked my sales rep at my dealership and he told me that several people have had this issue as well, and he told me it is probably due to improper tightening when they set the bikes up. All that you will need to do is loosen that hose clamp, and pull the hose down a little more and retighten the hose clamp. That is what i did to mine, and it hasn't leaked since. Oh by the way the drops actually look like they come from the gearcase but they are not, so don't be bothered by that dark spot on the geargase at the bottom of the seal. Hopes this helps you out, and sorry it was so long.

Default 700 Gas vent hose?

I was hoping it was something like that.....so when you said "the rubber hose for that ties into the gearcase"...are you talking about the vent hose from the gas tank? Why does that flow into the gearcase? It sounds like we are talking about the same problem b/k I have that same dark spot at the bottom of my front gear case. I just want to make sure I find the right hose. Thanks for your help.

Sorry it took so long to respond to you man, had to work late. That rubber hose, i'm not sure what it is, but it about an inch and half in diameter "roughly", but it ties right into the front diff. case. One of my friends that i work with has the 800 efi and he had to do the same thing to his. Anyway just loosen up that hose clamp, and then try and pull it down just a little more than the factory setting and tighten the clamp back up, and should stop. My friend and I had the same exact problem and adjusting that hose fixed both of ours. Hope that works for you man. Good luck.
