Default flames shooting out of my pure polaris pipe

My pipe is bACKFIRING and sparks are shooting out. It happens in neutral and when i'm in gear 1 . when i rev the throttle in neutral it pops and there are the sparks. i cleaned my k/n and it seemed to start after that. what do i need to check.

do you have a spark arrester? It will pop and back fire when you rev it up in neutral and close the throttle quickly

4 strokes backfire a ton anyway and if you dont have a sparkarrestor it would spark if you close the throttle quickly, just like scramadamadingdong said

my 04 predator did the samething. it's the rev limiter. you hit it easier when your filter is clean because the quad revs faster.I never noticed it ontill i took the spark plate off the pure polaris pipe. you can check to see if i'm right by slowly increasing the throttle ontill it pops the rev limiter, you should see the same sparks/flames.

so should you get a after market rev limiter to keep this from happening

I did,but, I also did a whole lot of work to the predator(big bore,porting,carb)
the dyna tech fs is what i got,it can be used on stoke preds. so can the vortec. they are both programable cdi's that have a few different curves you can use without a reprogram. they are both in the $400.00 rage

the easiest way is to not rev it in nuetral so high that it hit's the rev limiter. the rev limiter is keeping you from grenading your engine so I wouldn't mess with that

I've noticed if mine starts to backfire way too much, it seems to be caused by a little water in the carb. turn the fuel off, and let the carb drain completely and just like magic, smooth running once again. you'll like the rev of a vortex if you wanna spend the money. way smooth.

Have you oiled your muffler bearing lately? it might need more lube if its shooting out sparks..........

seriously, it sounds like you're lean on the main jet. Hence when you cleaned your airfilter the backfiring started......

What jets are you running with the K&N, Polaris pipe, and what altitude.
