1996 Xplorer 480 V-Twin
#1
Well . . . thats what Im thinking about doing. Gotta do more research though.
I need to replace the engine in my X as my wife has developed chemical sensivities and the 2-stroke fumes make her really sick. The engine and bike is is great shape. I tried to sell the bike, but people want to pay nothig for it. I have tried to look for older 425 Magnums as a doner vehicle, but still no luck. Buying a new 400SP is $8500 + tax. Ouch.
Then I though . . . what about an ARGO engine. They have Kohler and B&S. My father has a 2004 6 wheeler with a 16hp 480cc B&S V2.
A competant welder could mount the engine (if it will fit). Gotta make sure the output shaft will fit the clutch. Need hoses for gas and need to reroute air cleaner hose. The engine has electric start, so I would have to wire it to the X's green starter button. If the engine does not physicall fit, Im sure I could find a different one a little smaller.
Any thoughts ???
