Default tmx38 vs 39 PWK Keihin on my scrammy

Rick is rebuilding my cylinder for me and he says he can get the tmx to work for me but he mostly uses the keihin. he is leaving the choice up to me. I am a total moron when it comes to carb tuning and I know the Keihin has many more tuning options which scares me a little since I'm not much of a carb tuner/plug reader. What do you guys think I should do. Let him set up my tmx for me or go for the keihin which of course he will set up for me as well. Will I really benifit from the keihin? Also I'd like to add that Rick has been a pleasure to deal with and I reccomend him to everybody.

Most people say the PWK over the TMX, see the thread on the two.

The 39 all the way for me. It's kinda hard to justify buying a new carb when you already have a aftermarket on now. I've never personally had a 38 but hear they have a lean spot in the lower speed ranges which isn't good. I don't really think you would have all that much trouble tuning this carb. They come pretty well setup from HPD so there probably won't be much to do. Like Rick said the decision is up to you.

That's a really good post that Jimmy put up.

Rick is a great guy. he was helping me tune my trailmod explorer before i ever bought anything from him. i would go with the pwk. i don't own one but everybody here who has owned both says go with the pwk. also Rick said he flow tested all the available carbs for the 400 and found the stock carb bored flows as well as the Tmx. now i'm sure someone in particular on this forum will tell you that's bull.

Thanks for the link jim, lot's of good reading there. Dune you are right it is hard to justify buying a pwk when I already have a performance carb on it. I guess the biggest question for me is, is it really worth the $250 to buy a new carb when we can get the one I have to work.

I think it depends on how you ride, the TMX has a lean spot down low, and the PWK leaks fuel out the overflows or up through the needle at slow speeds if the over flows are full. So they both have down low problems if you are riding half throttle or above you should be fine with either. I doubt theres a huge horse power difference maybe some throttle response.

If I rode low rpm I'd get the PWK not that leaking fuel on the grown will keep our riding areas open, but I'd rather have a low rpm bog and foul plugs then change a piston. thats just my .99 cents.

Scrama. You might be able to get a hundred bucks or more for the 38tmx. Then the 39 wouldn't cost so much. Just a thought.
