Default Scrambler chain sprocket question

I have a 2000 Scrambler 500 4x4. I've replaced the original chain & both drive & driven sprockets, the chain was shot & the sprockets were mostly gone. Just wondering how the gearcase's drive sprocket is suppose to fit onto the splined output shaft. I bought a new drive sprocket, but it fits somewhat loose on the splined shaft, does not fit snug at all. Is there suppose to be some play? Or are the output shaft's splines shot?

Default Scrambler chain sprocket question

Hey,

I was here with the same question. Some one gave me a 1999 scrambler. I had to rebuild the transmission and I replaced the rear drive sprocket. Both the original and the new one that I bought seemed to have tons of play. they move probably about 1/4 inch from side to side. It doesent seem like a good design at all. I looked in the parts manual and I have all of the required hardware. I replaced the chain and tightened it and it seems to work. I am considering puting a washer in-between the rear drive sprocket and the snap-ring that holds the sproket on. It may be that this play is required with the swing-arm travel to prevent chain damage. If you find out any more please let me know.

Default Scrambler chain sprocket question

I'm not sure why there is this play. mine has it too but, i did put a washer on mine years ago and i still have the washer on.seemed dumb to me too.I think it has to do with the concentric drive system.but as i said i put a washer in to stop the play and it's been there fpr a few years now.

Thanks for your replys. So even on a brand new output shaft, a new drive sprocket sits on there loose? I wonder if there is a spec on how loose that sprocket is allowed to be on there?
