Default cluth spring or kit

I love my '05 sp 500 but i wouldnt mind a little bit more but my question is how do i know what clutch spring to get. Is it by trial and error or what, and do i get it for the primary or the secondary or do i need to buy a whole new clutch kit. In the future i plan on rejetting and aftermarket air filter. I usually ride at 3500-6000 ft. any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

I have found that a EPI pink spring has been an excellent upgrade for my 400. I believe the 400 and 500 have essentially the same drive train and gearing so I'm guessing this spring will also benefit you the same.

This spring basically allows the engine to operate a little bit higher in RPMs while under high load conditions such as hill climbs. It allows you to use high range while doing hill climbs etc.... and keeps the engine operating in the meat of the torque band. It is not a radical spring......but gives greatly improved low speed/high load performance. It also does not cause any other ill-affects throughout the operating range. The great part is.......the EPI pink spring is $20......... It's also an easy swap.

I don't know for sure.......but the Polaris tranny has changed very little over the years. I would venture to say that the springs are all interchangable. I think the EPI pink spring will fit.

BTW......there are MANY different springs with MANY different ratings available. The EPI pink spring is doing exactly what I want it to........but there are several manufacturters......Polaris, Dalton, EPI, Heelclicker, Highlifter.......and they all have MANY springs with various ratings to achive different performance parameters.

If I were you.......I'd try the EPI pink spring. Like I said........it's a nice performance upgrade for very little $$$.

It's not going to make you have better accelaration.........but it REALLY does help the machine operate in loaded high range low RPM conditions..........such as hill climbs.

I'm very glad I installed it.

Very well stated!!!! But what he is looking for he needs to go with a complete Heelclicker hit.

It's about $170.

'ftwflh'.....I purchased and installed a Heelclicker. On my machine it essentially meant installing the Heelclicker clutch weights. After installing them......I saw NO performance gain. In fact.......it was more sluggish from a dead stop. I just today switched my stock weights back in......and my performance is better than with the Heelclicker weights.

I have heard nothing but good reviews of the Heelclicker clutch kit. But my experience has left me dissappointed. I am wide open to suggestions.......maybe I missed something on the set-up???

Give Heelclicker a call and tell them what is going on.Tell them exactly what clutch components you are running and they will line it out for you.
