Default Some dealers (salesman) are just dumb

This afternoon I decided to let my fingers do the walking as I called around local Polaris dealers looking for a deal on a Predator. One that carries Yam/Hon/Kaw/Suz/Polaris left a sour taste and I probly won't be buying from them. The salesman on the phone kept asking me why I want a Predator and I told him, "mostly fast trail riding." I asked, "Why?" He said because he doesn't really like Polairs. He said to get the Raptor 700. I said, "Nah. I don't want that. I'm not buying a first year Yam, plus it's a grand more than I want to spend." I asked him the price again and he said, "Get a Z400. I saw one kill a Predator in a straight drag." I said, "There must have been something wrong with that Predator then." He said, "Nope. The Pred is just way too heavy. It weighs 455lbs." LOL! I said, "WHAT?!" He just kept insisting that it even said it weighed 455lbs in the brochure. And so on. He sounded like some random customer that was walking the floor answered the phone and was just messing we me on the phone. As for the price on the Pred he quickly just said, "Uhh, somewhere around $6k."

I dunno. I just had to let that out. He must be a rookie salesman. He could have just sold me a Pred but instead sent me away from his dealership. Moron.

Doesn't surprise me. When the Predator first came out, I went to the local stealer (which I do all my Polaris business thru) & they had just hired some salesman that knew nothing about anything!! I had questions about the "new" Predator (2003) and he knew it had 4 wheels & that was it. Most of the idiots that get hired at a dealership as salesmen know nothing about the machine other than what the owners manual tells them, which is pretty dang sad. If that's your job, take some pride in it and help the customer out, not just care about what the comission is on the sale.

I do agree that our local dealer hired whoever was next in line and now I see some of them selling furniture. Some of them are just trying to make a living so just hammer out the best deal or just walk away. I used to sell boats part time and just liked the industry. It was a fun job and good money. There are some very well educated consumers and they can tell you things like what size the oil drain plug is. No salesman can compete with that. Just don't get me going on auto salesmen. Hopefully the "dinosaurs" will soon be replaced with people who really care.
