Polaris or Aftermarket Cargo Box
#1
I'm looking at getting a hard rear cargo box. I'm leaning towards a Pure Polaris because I like the idea of the attachments designed for the composite rack. There are two Polaris boxes I'm looking at and I know the one for Gen VI machines will obviously fit my 2004 Sportsman.......but I think I like the one that is listed to fit Gen IV machines better and I'm also thinking it will fit my Gen VI machine as well.......again using the Polaris specific attachment hardware. The two boxes are: Gen VI Item #2874574-070 and Gen IV Item #2872319-070.
My question is: will the old style Gen IV box fit on my Gen VI machine using the Polaris attachment hardware? Has anybody been down this road before?
I would also be open to aftermarket boxes such as Kimplex.......but I really like the idea of the Polaris attachment hardware specifically designed to attach to the composite racks.
I'd love any advise from people who have researched and installed a rear cargo box on a 2004 Sportsman.

2004 was the only year the racks were like yours, 2003 and 2005 are different and it probably wont work, it should be Gen XX specific.
Look under your year and model for the accessories on the pure polaris site, it will list all that fit that model and year.

I'll have to dig into it with my dealer. I'm pretty certain I can mount the old style on my 2004 Gen VI machine using Polaris hardware because I've seem them. As a matter of fact, in the September issue of "ATV Magazine" they have an article about a Police Force that uses a 2004 Sportsman 600 and they are using the old style cargo box. I think it's just a matter of getting the hardware. I think the old style box might be a bit beefier and that's why I'm interested in it as opposed to the newer one which I was not impressed with. It also costs about $40.00 less.
