Any idea what the compression should read on a 500HO?
#1
Hey I recently bought a 05 Sportsman 500 HO. Well recent as in 4 months ago. Im on my 2nd oil change and I have a suspicion that there may be fuel in the oil. So I decided to do a compression test, it reads 76psi is this right? I might be wrong about the fuel in the oil. Just seemed thin and kinda smells like fuel Please reply Thanks.

No that isnt correct, your atv wouldnt start if thats what it was at, make sure everything is tight and then turn the key so it is starting with the compression reader inplace... let it crank over 4 or 5 times then take your reading right away

The compression tester seems to be fine I even tried a second tester and it reads the same. The quad is running ok. when I stop cranking it over it the gauge stays at 76psi and does not go down untill i release the pressure. any ideas? Or suggestions?

These engines have an automatic compression release.
If it starts good and runs good and does not smoke don't worry about it.
Also adjust the valves. They could be tight.

Well I would have thought that myself. 76 seems low but it does run ok it was just a precaution to compression test it. How can I find out what the compression should be?
