Default 1998 POLARIS EXPLORER 400 4X4

I have recently developed a condition where the clutch is rubbing the plastic side cover no matter how I position it. It only rubs at idle anything off idle the noise goes away. I took the cover off and there are 3 differents spots where it is rubbing. There seems to be nothing wrong with the clutch. The quad is in great shape, not abused and only has 200 miles on it. I really do not want the clucth to rub a hole through the case but I cannot see anything wrong. Please help deer season is quickly aproaching
Thanks in advance.

did you get it stuck in mud and burn the belt enough to melt the plastic cover and make it sag? they will stretch enough to rub the cover but not after only 200 miles. if it's new and you didn't make it slip your dealer should replace it but i can't imagine what would cause it to wear out so soon.

make sure that the bolts on the top of the cover arne't loose or the bottom ones overtight. I had the same thing happen on my 95 xplorer 400 and it was because a couple of the top bolts were a bit loose. There was some dirt in the threads so I had to clean them out before I could tighten it, but once I did that took care of it. It seems like when the engine is off idle the torque pulls everything down somewhat stopping the rubbing. Hope this helps, and hope you get your deer!

Replace the belt cover and it will be ok.Covers warp over time from lots of thing like heat and kids putting feet on them.

You've only put 5 tanks of gas in it, in over 7 years?!? You should be getting around 40-50 miles out of a FULL tank, our '99 Xplorer does.

Thats not even one tank a year! Holy cow, I go through a tank a week!

Man, either your mileage is mixed up or you've got to get out and RIDE!

I just replaced the side cover and the noise is gone. cost me $112 but the peace and quiet is worth it. As far as putting some more miles on it I bought it with only 150 miles on it two years ago. A little old lady rode it to church and to the grocery store every sunday. lol!!!
NOw its time for me to break it in. Thanks everybody for the help.
