Turn off the gas.
Stand it up on the back rack.
Remove the skid plate.
Remove the right side cover.
There are two bolts under the cover that hold the starter on.
There is also a bracket on the other end of the starter. It is a pain to get to but you can do it.
Take the starter apart and look at the brushes and the bearing in the nose.
Replace what is worn.
If the armature is rough you can turn it down.
You can mount the armature in a drill and use a file to slick it up.
