Default '05 700 EFI Error 51

I looked at the Polaris parts manual, and it appears that the injectors are held in by the fuel rail and the fuel rail bolts to the head with a single bolt between the injectors. It appears that if you remove the bolt, you can pull off the fuel rail and pull the injectors. I haven't done it on an EFI, but it looks similar to many cars. But the Polaris 700 EFI data may not be right because it shows the same picture as the 800 EFI in the Polaris parts book.
I hope this helps you

Thanks Bryce, thats what I was thinking. I have the service manual and thats what it says, like most of Polaris manuals, not written very clearly....I'll get around to it sometime today or this weekend. I have alot of cleanup to do because of the hunting trip, washing the travel trailer, truck, cleaning out the TT, etc. and of course, washing alot of clothes since I was gone two weeks....too bad the ATV wasn't running, caused me to change my hunting plans, which sucked since I planned on using the ATV alot to get to the further our area's...

Just to add, you have a wiring schematic in the back of the service manual that shows the injector circuits and the cold resistance spec is there also. I'm not sure which injector is # 1 but I'd guess it to be the mag side, try to check and make sure you have battery voltage at the injectors when the problem is present to rule that circuit out. Listen for the injector clicking again when the problem is present using a steathescope or long screwdriver resting against your ear and the injector. If it stops operating or is intermittent connect a test light across the injector terminals to make sure the light flashes consistantly but be very careful not to damage the small terminals in the connector. The last thing you need is to create a problem you didn't have originally. You may have to check every inch of the injector harness for abrasion/rubbed through insulation.

Was/is this quad in the ecu recall by chance?

I read about the clicking noise in the injector in the manual, I believe I can hear it without the use of aids....when it first happened, I thought I had some type of vibration that wasn't there before, but I believe it is the injector....

I'm also trying to figure out what injector #1 is.....the 'mag' side? what is that?

I'm going to swap injectors first....I've already went through all wiring to make sure there isn't any rubbing or kinks, etc., it all looks good....

When was the ECU recall, I don't ever remember one?

thanks,
dave

Mag side is magnito, pto is clutch side. I thought all the 05 700's got the recall but maybe not, you should have got a letter. I think there's info on the Polaris website about it, check your VIN to see if it falls in the range of numbers recalled.

The only recall that had to do with the ECU was the throttle cable getting pinched by the ECU when you turn....nothing else that I know of...

thanks on the 'mag side' answer, I was thinking that side also, but should be able to find by looking at the service manual, even though it doesn't show a pic of which injector is which, I think the pistons should be labeled accordingly in the engine breakdown, but ya never know...

i looked for the recalls on their website, do you know where they are located?

Go to the very bottom of the homepage and click on safety then at the top of the next page click on news. The recall and VIN range is on a link at the right side down a bit. It doesn't mention EFI's so you may not be in it.

ElkBow Check your spark plug wires for wear as well, I was getting the same thing on my EFI and found out it was not the injector but, worn insulation on the plug wires.
