EPA says maximum in a utility vehicle is 40hp. That's why the XP "only" has 40hp, when the 700 ATV has more. So it's actually detuned for less power in the Ranger. However, you would never know... The XP has plenty of power for that type of vehicle. There have been guys change out the computers & cam and maybe a few other things I don't remember to get the "full power" out of the XP. There have even been guys covert to the 800 motor!

I wonder if they detune it by the CDI box? seems you could swap a Dynotek or maybe even a stock 700EFI ATV CDI box in there and get a little extra HP

I read about the hop-ups,too. Floodrunner is the guy to ask. They might even be on this forum...I saw some, there are more than one company or individual who are attacking this "Problem"!

Do a google for "Ranger XP Mods"...,good luck. mike

In my situation, with a mentally impaired child (Doesn't start or drive it without an 'approved'adult)it has more power than it needs to!

We had a snowstorm last weekend, the ground wasn't totally frozen. It's been a really warm winter so far,we live in central MI.

After we had the pleasure of plowing the last 5 driveways and the street,(first time!), off came the plow and it was my turn to make a trail in the park next to my house.

Put the rear axle into lock,no front (AWD),and made a trail...2nd time around,realised I'd thrown a bit of mud,about every 25 feet...quite a bit in spots.

So rather than waiting for someone to call the cops,we hurried back home and covered it up with a tarp. We're gonna ride this weekend,I'm sure!

Fun!
