Default Something wrong with my 03 sp700

ok, i went riding today for 4 hours did alot of fast riding on an old abandonded highway (50 mph+) my bike loved it, it was running great when i loaded it on the trailer, when i took it off the trailer when i got home it was cooled off by then and it didnt have any throttle respones just like it does before it warms up and that was probably why, so i took it over to the waterblaster and washed it real good because i had gotten it really dirty, then when i went to start it up it wouldnt start, it cranked and cranked and never started (it usually starts as soon as you turn the key) so i looked in the tank, bone dry, so i put it on reserve and it started right up, drove it down my street and when i got back and stopped, it died, and wouldnt start, i filled the tank and it started up and i drove it up and down the street again but when you would floor it it would bog out but only from a dead stop if you were going and floored it it took of like a rocket ship just like normal (this is warmed up) but if you floored it from a dead stop it would bog out until it would die, it would spit and sputter up my drive way at low rpms to, and when i would turn around it would spit and sputter too. My dad told me to drive it a little because i must have got something wet or something but it didnt help, i checked the air box and it was dry so its not that. last time i washed it a week ago it was doing a similar thing(bog out after floored from dead stop) but it would take off after a sec and two days later it was fine again it quit doing it, so something must be getting wet because i had to wash this thing awhile because it was so dirty. i hope it will get better again in a few days after everything dries out but i drove it for about 15 mins and it didnt get better and it was hot.

What is getting wet that would make it run crappy?, and make it sputter when you turn around, carb?, any help would be appriciated!!!Thanks

Hey polarisbob, maybe your spark plug "hole" is getting filled-up with water during your wash. Pull your spark plug boot and squirt with dielectric grease "tune-up grease" in and around the boot to seal off water infilltration, it works for us during water crossings and mud-bogging.

If you ran out of gas it can't hurt to drain the float bowl and change or clean the fuel filter.

Good luck.

just something to check. ive read that the 800s have a recall on the boot between the carb and engine. that boot has been cracking and letting water in the engine.

I replaced my carb adaptor (boot) a year or so ago it was cracked bad (not through though) and look weathered or dry rotted.
I called and told Polaris to watch for a bad "lot" of parts because this could be big problems if sand or water gets in.
It wasn't covered under warty and cost $40 for that damn thing!!!

Jim

BTW, I think that "800 Recall" your talking about was the breather hose in the other thread.
