do think by not having a clamp on filter make it bog?

im running a 45 pilot a170 main with slide spring mod. i never touched the air mix screw and i have my needle all the way rich , im using a k@n clamp on and it runs great from bottom to top .but im using the factory carb i know mikuni jets are slghtly larger than some

Have you tried cleaning the needle and seat? I had this simular problem on my ds, only gas was also leaking from the overflow tube, in other words my carb was flooding my engine. Don't know if this helps, but you might of cut too much off the spring?? Well I hope you figure out the problem. RUSS

well went to the races didnt run that good even though raced a bunch of cannondales, came close beat'em in bottom until hit third, put a 170 and 50 pilot 2 out on mix screw, but found out valve springs were to loose, and i'm gonna try clamp on, thanx for the help guys!

well next time we'll definitely be better, going 2 get port and polished with some cams and maybe a lectron 44mm, just dont want to lose out on money paid for the edelbrock

Stock needle has 5 notches, and typically runs best on 3rd or 4th clip position (needle pointed down). I'd start on the 3rd position.
