How do I get just a little more top end? I added the K&N filter before it was even off the showroom floor. I think everyone is going to say pipe and clutch kits / springs. I will play around with the clutch as long as I don't loose any bottom end. I just want the top end gain. As for manufacturer's of pipes, of the many out there, what ones are the most reputable, and have good pipes with low noise increases? Sound level is a MAJOR consideration. Also, can someone give me the websites for these pipe maufacture's.

Thanks, and Cya!

The best way to gain just a little more top end is GO RIDE! Polaris 500 motors get faster as they get broken in. My 98 Sportsman 500 didn't hit its true top end, till it hit about 1000 miles. Also those HO motors have the compression to take advantage of 92 octane gas, so if your not already using it you should start. I've yet to see a pipe for one that made any worth while gains and most are considrably louder.

The clutch springs will help acceleration some, but not top speed. If, after everything loosens up it still isn't fast enough, maybe taller tires will help. They will have the effect of slightly raising the gearing. Just don't get the heaviest, deepest biting tires or they will require enough more power to pull than they will gain you in speed.

If hpd will make the same pipe for the 500 scrambler to put on the sp that would be bad. Because i got a really good gain out of that pipe compared to the hsp one i had b4 that. And its really not all that loud.

try taking the slack out of your throttle cable. this is simple and free. i got a few MPH by doing it and i know several others have too.

Hey, I haven't heard a supertrapp on a sportsman, but a friend of mine races a supertrapp 300ex, and it's not too loud. I like the sound of it.. He said with the correct jetting, it made a good HP boost. I didn't think it would.. so I jumped on it.. and man, that thing won't keep the front wheels on the ground. It felt alot better than stock. Hope that helps ya..
