My dad just purchased a 700 carb out of state and it has 0.5 miles on it and it is running really bad, here are my questions:
1. Mine (same quad) idles at 1000-1200 RPM's all of the time and runs smooth, his is idleing around 890-930 and ROUGH, what RPM's should it idle at?
2. His smokes a little up front on something (seems to come from in front of air intake and below the gas tank?
3. His died today several times when I took it for a ride, only when I'd stop after running it hard, it would die, what is causing this, bad carb adjustment?
4. It also makes A LOT of noise when turning sounds like tranny/belt issues?
5. Could this just be a few small things the dealer missed after he uncrated it?
6. Can I take it to another dealer for warranty work since the dealer he got it at is too far away? (my dad is now down in FL after the hurricane)
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.....ALSO REMEMBER I'M NOT A MECHANIC!

Idle should be set at 1100 rpm, adjust from left side, btm of carb.
Make sure there is no exhaust leak at the manifold or manifold donut/pipe area.
Also check the airbox for debree and that the foam around the snorkle is not being sucked in the intake.
Driveline clunk is normal.

Great advice all around, but at this point it is too early to be doing your own diagnostics. This is a Polaris Dealer issue. The idle screw is a rather large screwhead which looks kinda' like a tiny water faucet ****. When it's warm play with that until it sounds more like yours (do the newer 700s have a tach? My 500 doesn't.) Torque the exhaust flange bolts when it's warm, and see if you can spot a head-gasket or oil leak of any kind. Bottom line is a machine this new needs to be taken back to a dealer. No ned for you to hassle with it...yet.Originally posted by: jimmypsp700

And if you are not used to a heavy-duty snowmobile tranny racket, yes; it will freak you out.

I agree twoblack but first check a few of the easy minor things then take it to the dealer if its still running bad etc...
The newer models 2004.5 and up have a tach and if you have a 02 700 up the tach is in the diagnostics mode when in Nuetral.

Well, it does not surprise me that new ones have a diagnostics mode.
The engineering of these machines is SO far ahead of the competition it's astounding.
I asked guys who made their living sitting on ATVs what they would get if money were no object.
They ALL said "Polaris".
The best hunting guide in the State owns one (500 Sportsman) just like mine.
The State Biologist was issued a new Yammi and says after having a Polaris he wants to set the Yamaha on fire. He wants the ancient Polaris back, and told me if I ever feel like loaning mine out that he'd help me put some miles on it. He was serious!
The local guy who owns a jetski/snowmobile/ATV rental said he'd never ride ANYTHING but a polaris, and he had 3 of everything all over the place.
SOOO....I bought a Polaris!
