Default 03 Trailblzer 250 Steering Rod: replace?

Help- I can't believe it myself but I rolled my wife's polaris trailblazer 250 and the dealer tells me I bent the steering rod. What kills me..... the dealer tells me that polaris made unique rods each year and that he needs the vin number to get the part and that it will take a week (and more money then I expected). Plus the fact the wife is pissed! Ha.

My two questions: Is this true in regards to getting this part? I
can ride it fine with it rubbing the plastic a little... Does anyone know if I will be doing further long term damage if I don't rectify this now? (i.e. alignment issues, etc..)

A little green on fixing these things so any pro thoughts would be helpful!
Thanks

Any way you can take a pic of it??? I'm having a hard time telling where you bent it at......is it bent near the top(handlebars).....or near the bottom(where it connects to the tirods, which connect to each wheel)........???.......

You won't do any more damage, as long as its safe to ride, and you don't end up hurting yourself......

Thanks for the response Bradracer:

I could not see the actual bend but you can see the rod pushed in rubbing the plastic very lightly. The mechanic showed me how the rod does a half moon when you turn bars not staying circular......at least that's what he tried to show me... I just couldn't see it. All I know is the handle bars are down-and-in a little.... even after adjusting them from the roll. They have the quad right now for some maintance so no way to take a picture. I plan on riding it Vet's weekend in the desert with my kids as a chase/lead quad. So hopefully no stupid rock jumps on my part..... Just got deal with the irate wife! Classic.

Thanks for the advice. I will ride it and go from there..... probably a new partsland customer.

Thanks for the link Jayblazer! Very helpful.

Do you think there is any credence to the mechanics comment on Polaris making unique rods? Sounds like an extra 2.5 hrs at $80 p/hr to me plus parts.....

One more ride and then decision time.

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.
