frame lightening of scrambler/sport frame.
#1
Ok so I have done most of the "easy" and bolt off stuff to lighten my scramblers frame. I have been looking at what some other duners and draggers have done and have some questions regarding removing some things from a structural/safety stand point.
underneith the oil tank is a plate on the bottom of the frame just behind the radiator. I noticed alot of you guys have cut this off is there any danger of bending the frame if I do this traveling through woops and general bumps? I never see more the 4-5 feet of air.
I also noticed that alot of people cut the rear frame supprts off just below the seat by the battery box are there any dangers of frame bending like this?
lastly I have seen some people remove the front brakes I am wondering how much stopping is really decreased like this. I use almost all rear brakes on any other machine I have ridden. My pedal does work.
I know that obviously my frame will be weeker but I am wondering how much weaker I don;t beat up on my bike just haul ***.

IMO,4-5' of air can easily break the scrambler's frame.cutting off support pieces is just going to make it break that much easier..you may want to consider replacing what you can on the frame with chromoly tubing..

I have only gotten air like that once or twice so it shouldn't be regular.
that front plate has to add some structural integrity but the only use for It I can see is to mount the front axles for a 4x4.

I know what your talking about conig. The "skid plate" lookin thing, between the a-arms. Correct? On the first frame I did, I cut all that out, including the radiator support. And i put back just a little chromoly in its place. The only thing original on my frame now is the trans/swingarm cradle. Although I would NEVER want my rear wheels to leave the ground

with your rigid suspension I wouldn;t want to leave the ground either. but 276 pounds would hall A$% even with the stock motor.
I have been looking at what Dennis Does but I can;t and have never welded before so It puts my limited fabrication skills in a bad place.
