Winch on the rear of an SP 800
#1
I often find myself “nose in” where the front winch system is inconvenient. Coming back out the same way I went in would be the best option. Has anyone done this and is there a manufacturer for the bracket system? I know Polaris did have a quick change system that they no longer produce. I’ve looked at that and feel that it would be inconvenient changing it over deep in the muck even if the system did mount up. I’m thinking of a second unit with a permanent mount

Hi totun.
I have been in the mbarket for a Polaris 500 HO.. I have a Kawasaki bayou 300 right now, it HAD a Warn 2000 lb winch on it. THere is some neat stuff here.. Click on the polaris link about 3/4 down the page. He said that Montana jacks made some good stuff..
Hope it helps.

To me: The ideal system would be a hitch mount front and rear with a quick disconnect. So when your not using the winch you can stow it in a locker box on the atv and when you need it you can use the quick connect system to power it up. They have the quick disconnects on this site as well..

You would have to take your storage box off of the back of your 800, but this is what I did on my 500 and will soon do on my 700. Just look at my pics. I picked up the metal at Lowe's and just cut a couple of notches so it would fit down flush. Then I just drilled two holes down through the metal and into the frame. Get some good bolts and it will NOT go anywhere. My buddy is about to do this on his 800.

Hey BigRed thats a clean installation on that rear winch, looks like it belongs there. Gonna have to save that picture...

i was thinking of a rear winch...but what i want is something that still allows me to open my rear storage compartment....my problem now is that i am putting the ATV in the back of my shorbed F250 Crew Cab....it barely fits with the front brushguard, I have to remove the rear bumper and back it in to the truck, otherwise it won't fit with the bumper on the ATV....kind of a pain, but only 4 bolts....
so if I put on a winch in the rear, it will be too long, needs to be removeable...I have the welder and the talent, just haven't had the time....I want it to mount between the storage compartment and the receiver hitch....the receiver hitch is too low to mount a winch...so I will most likely manufacture a backet for the winch, i want it removeable, but that is going to take alot of work...

I have one on my 03 700 snd love it. I keep it on the rear end 99.9% of the time. It dosn't get pushed through the mud or bashed about in the brush like it would if it was sticking out the front end. Pull the pin, unhook the quick disconect wireing and pull it off. Just the oposite to mount it to the front. Well worth the $$$ for the multi-mount.
