Cracked Plastic
#1
I just bought a used quad. I took the seat off to check out the air filter-clean. I noticed one of the plastic straps which a molded continum off of the rear fender is cracked where it is bolted to the frame. Someone over tightened the bolt and cracked the plastic around the head. I wondered if anyone ever tried JB Weld or something similar on plastic? Thought about running universal metal type strapping up on the plastic strap and then down to the end and up underneath. I figured I would drill out the strap further up towards the fender and bolt the metal strap onto and through the plastic. I could then reattach the strap to the frame by running the bolt through the metal strapping with the plastic in between and back to the frame. This should give it some strength and may prevent the the connection point from cracking completely off. I know you guys know what I am talking about- I hope. Anyone have a better soultion?

I've used JB Weld on about everything....but not sure it is your best bet here, but may be worth a try....is the plastic holding under the bolt or is it pulled out? You might be able to use plastic weld, which I think adheres itself to the plastic, or melts it all to one and then you redrill a hole, I'm only thinking I've seen stuff like that...but haven't used it....

I bought a plasitc welder, it works great. I fixed several tabs and no problems at all. JB Weld may work give it a shot. Where are you located? I am in the Fresno are (Ca). Check out my photos and you can see how strong the welds are.

Thanks for the reply guys. The plastic under the bolt is still holding but is cracked from the hole out to the edge in two directions. Plastic welder sounds like the ticket. Where do I get some or is it an actual machine that melts and fuses it back together? I am located in Michigan.

http://www.urethanesupply.com/ you can also use any old plastic container thats marked hdpe on the bottom. 5 gallon buckets and oil containers are good sources of hdpe. cut strips from the containers and use a soldering iron to weld it back together. http://www.extremegarage.com/reviews/atvpw_review.htm
