TOP 100 THINGS NOT TO DO WITH AN ATV
#131
After compressing the pistons while changing brake pads don't go barreling off down the street with out pumping your brakes up first. A friend went through a block wall figuring this one out. Yea, he lived and picked up some cool conversational starting scars.

I got one, "Don't check your fuel level with an open flame." No lie, it's in my SeaDoo owners manual. That means someone did it.......That's for people who don't have fuel gauges. Check this out, I know it's not an ATV thing but... In the Winabego motorhome owners manual it says not to leave the drivers seat while the motorhome is in motion. The story is a man set his speed control and got up to make a cup of coffee and crashed. He won a million bucks and a new motorhome.

QUOTE from redmtn: "Don't check your fuel level with an open flame."
I'm ashamed to say it, but we actually had a guy do this before we stepped off from Kuwait. Makes for a nice fire-works show, and a trip to Germany. Facial scars and lack of eye brows don't help with picking up chicks, though. Not that a genus like this should be breeding anyway.

a guys honda 4x4 had this done to it:
the lake was "dried" up or so he thought. he saw what he thought was a small mud hole and when he hit it, mud went over the engine and the exhaust. it took 2 4x4 atvs with winches to get him out.
hint: when riding in a lake that is "dried" up, dont assume that every spot is completely dry.

And all I had to get out with was our other quad - a polaris 250 . With some momentum and a few retyings of the strap I got it out though .

haha, i have had it sort of happen to me before, but nothing like this guys quad. he was buried up over the motor and wasnt moving. when we fed him the winch hook, he had to shovel his way through the mud to hook it to the hitch. when he finally got out, mud was caked everywhere. he took it through a water hole and got most of it off.

just because the trail crosses a flooded wash doesnt' mean that you should pin out in 4th gear and try to hydroplane across....because all that happens is you go over the handlebars and the quad goes 50 feet downstream.
and if the bank drops 3 feet into the river and your on a warrior don't go jumping off that bank cuz man.....you aint getting back out.

After my buddy rolled his 2004 400 SP down a 200' slickrock hill in Moab, I had the brains to try and start it right away. Needless to say, the throttle was stuck open and the SP started chasing us around in a circle. I'm sure it was quite a sight. Well, it hit the incline of more slick rock and caused about 400.00 more damage.
After a machine is wrecked, do not start it right away!! Make sure the throttle is not stuck open.
