I have a 1999 polaris 500 sportsman that is leaking small amounts of prestone out the waterpump weep hole. what do you think this is and how long should it take to fix.

 

replace your water pump.

 

Yes it is the water pump seal.

And no matter what your dealer or service manaul tells you you do NOT have to pull the engine or go through a lot of BS.

 

I had a seeping weep hole once back in the 70's...penicillin cleared it right up though...

 

I just had the same thing happen to my scrambler 400. the dealer replaced the water pump. Cost me about $400.

 

Just replaced the Mechanical seal on my 00 500. It was leaking out the weep hole also.
Dealer wanted 70 dollars plus costs of part to replace it. It takes a special tool to get it out without having to crack the case open. I bought the tool from www.victorspecialtytools.com
I figured I may need it again. Costs me about 90 dollars with shipping.

I can tell you this just about everybody I talk to has some sort of problem with the weep hole leaking. Gotta love polaris machines. i own one and had 10 problems being a 2003 and only 120 hours and 500 miles and a ton of money sunk in. Yes mine leaks also but Iam letting it leak. When I say leak I mean drip hear and there only.
