Break in and service
#1
I have an '06 800EFI and I know the break in should go roughly 2 tanks of fuel, but when do I have to do the first service. I've read some stuff on here that has people doing one at 10hrs and others that seem to go longer. When should I take it in and what service should do?

Breaking in a new machine is kind of like making chili. Everyone seems to have their own idea of what the proper ingredients are and there are wide variations on the theme.
Now that we have tachs on these machines I try to keep them below 5000 rpm, never above 5250 during the break-in period, which for me is a weekend’s riding (125 to 200 miles). Make sure you vary the rpm range, which during a trail ride is pretty normal unless you’re riding a railroad grade all day. After your miles or two tank-fulls change the oil and filter, check for leaks and loose lug nuts. Go riding again and giver ‘er hell.

I have never verified this but I believe that you should not give er hell untill two oil changes and vary the rpms and keep from pulling anything. and I have been told no synthetic until the third oil change

check this out, makes sense...
as far as the fluids go, I changed the motor oil and filter after 10 hours and all the other fluids at 50 hours. after that I went by the manual.

Wow, that “theory” is very interesting and appears to be well-supported by evidence and experience. I’m gonna save that page, thanks for posting it.
See, I told you everyone has a different recipe (like some chilies that call for chocolate, YUK!)

I didn't think it was possible to use "chocolate" and "yuk" in the same sentence...as we type I have the remains of a 370 gram Lindt chocolate bar in front of me, better put it away before I eat the rest!

I have worked on engines before... and from what ive seen just ride it... just ride it... give the god damn thing if u want to give it to the wood just dont keep it this way for more then 3 to 5 seconds at a time... when you do floor it remember your rings are getting extreme pressure on them the best time to is when there new and need pressure to make a proper seat.
think of running sand through your engine, all those metal shavings from beign new, dont keep high rpms for long periods because of this, but make sure you get the rings seated properly
im not saying that i have just been lucky or anything but i beat the hell otta my polaris when i got it and changed oil at 100 miles on the head and it runs alot better then both other polaris i ride with
