The Wild1,
I am totally on your side as well. My dad taught me how to throw a punch when I was five and told me that if anyone ever messed w/ me to fight back. Win or lose stand up for yourself He did'nt say pick fights but if someone has the nerve to come on your property and try to steal your hard earned stuff they deserve a good a$$ woopin. Guess I was'nt raised to be a coward though. Different strokes for different foks. I personally would not want my insurance to go up either nor would I be able to look myself in the mirror if I just let some one punk me like that. It's crazy how everyones views are different though. Oh and I have two German Shepherds one which is huge and pretty big for the breed my boy and the other who is a runt and pretty small for the breed so dogs do vary in size. Kinda like people.....Any way Wild1 you are my hero! You go w/ your bad self

the wild1, I applaud you on catching and "restraing" the young ne'er do well. I too have dogs far from the standard, my "little" golden retriever is 80 pounds, the "big" one is 130, and about 4 inches taller as well. Yes hes a little overweight, but he was still over a hundred when he was lean.

Insurance for theft on your property is not rated on your personal claims like collision insurance on a vehicle . Rates are changed by seeing a group trend . Just because you have a theft claim doesn't affect you personally like crashing your car a couple times does to your vehicle insurance .

I would not be so quick to think that poeple who will avoid a confrontation with a thief are cowards . A trip to my shop at night by me with the possiblilty of an intruder(s) would be dangerous to say the least . How would I know how many poeple are in there ? If I was knocking the tar out an intuder what would keep his buddy from wrapping my favorite cheater bar around the back of my head ? If I go in armed how do I know it isn't my teenager sneaking a chain out of the shop going to get his car out of the ditch ? I heard of that happening once , dad damn near shot his own son in the shadows .

How could I look at my family from a hospital bed , unable to work , knowing if I only would have been cool and stayed put in the house for a bit while the burgular alarm chased off the bad guys , I would be able to work and keep food on the table ?

I see nothing to gain from INTENTIONALLY confronting intruders in my situation . Finding a thief in my garage like Wild1 did is indeed a once in a lifetime thing to have happen . I don't think I would have been as physical as he , I would have been content maybe restraining him , but I don't even know if that would really be something I would concider , hard telling if he is armed . Like I said , I can replace items, but if I get hurt , how does my family pay the bills ? To the contrary , if I hurt him you can bet your bottom dollar , I will have to pay his bills to . Why ? Because I have something to take and I am sure the injured thief can find council to take up his case .

Please remember , we are talking theft , this is an all together different subject than being threatened with bodily harm , that is a totaly different animal .

Wild1 ---> If you have a 105 pound Doberman by God I believe you , I don't think you are a liar .

Guess it helps to be crazier than they are.Oh yea I do have a Rot/shepard mix that dont like strangers.
It pays off to be known as a little crazy or different. I go to a "rich kid school" what i like to call it. I am a redneck instead of aa rich kid. The kids no i deer hunt, I no the words to all Da Yoopers songs(Da 30 point Buck), I wear flanno and shop at Fleet Farm regurly. In there minds i am a hick. I dont care but for some reson they all feer me. They think i am a killer or somthing cause i kill deer. Thats the way i like it, I dont even have to get my hands dirty with the rich snobs. It works out good, but my dad did tell me that if somone hits you, you have just as much of a right to hit them back, defend your self and end it and by all means if thats what i have to do i will do it.

Cudos too you my friend great job
I hate a thief , I would consider him lucky too get away with what you gave him. I am a pretty passive guy but have been known too have a nasty streak and if it would have been me who confronted him I would went into survival mode for my family and would have most likely had to be hauled off him or him hauled off me(not likely).
I think you showed great restraint and think he should consider himself lucky that you called the cops.

I was told buy the R.C.M.P that I could do what was nessasary to restrain them if caught without being to saddistc I asked what he meant and he said I could set a bear trap but could not anchor it to the floor..........lol I do not know if he was serious but sound s good to me.
