I bought my new 2000 Sportsman 500 in September, in central Michigan, for $5500 otd(no tax, farm use). Considering that I had not planned on purchasing another quad(totalled my old '84 TRX 200), I could not justify the $400-$600 difference in price. The ride is nearly as smooth as my recliner, can turn on a dime and still leave change. Top end speed is approaching 50mph, which is more than fast enough for me. So buy what makes you happy.
