04 600 Sportsman - New owner - easy questions
I just purchased an 04 600 Sportsman. I am new to the sport and have a few basic questions. First, I bought the unit for plowing, hunting and sometimes going for trail rides (in that order).
It has 1300 miles on it. The dealer went through it and serviced it. Here are my questions:
- What is the normal idle? This machine fluctuates between 1100 and 1250.
- Does this motor take a while to warm up? I notice that pretty shortly after starting it, if you try and 'whack' the throttle open, it stutters. Apparently there is a carb screw that can adjusted to richen the mixture (after removing the brass cover for it).
- Where should the clutch engagement be? Mine seems to engage around 2700-2800 RPM.
- At times, there is a knock from the lower side of the machine - near the transmission. Usually when switching from R to L/H upon the first engagement.
- The motor seems noisy like the valves are noisy. Is this common?
- I took off the right rear tire to inspect the brake assembly. The rear brake does not have a lot of travel to it. It engages the selenoid and only travels about 1/8 inch? It works and apparently is for emergency only. Just curious about the travel.
Thanks for any help.
