Hey guys... i have a 98 sport 400l... just got it out after not riding for a few months (been really busy) anyway i started it up and the reverse light is on. I put in neutral and forward and its still on... i thought it was no big deal... let her warm up... when i went to take off though the rev. limiter is stuck on! i traced the wire that controls the rev limiter from the handle bars to the wire board on the front of the quad under the light and unplugged it... that did the trick so i could ride that day...

but my question is what happened? it was fine the last time i rode it... its pretty cold up here in michigan so did the sensor freeze or something? just trying to figure this one out... anybody know what happened to my toy? thanks

 

I'm having an electrical problem with my '98 Scrambler 400 4X4. I think the electrical in these
is a real weak spot!

My 4X4 is out in forward, only works in reverse with the rev override switch pushed.

And I noticed if you're riding at night and you press the rev override switch the reverse
light comes on faintly. Wish I knew what was up with stuff like this!

 

so you fixxed it!!! you don't need that dumb rev limiter.Can't really tell you what went wrong,,I don't know but maybe the rev limiter just went bad. Trust me though, you don't need it. I have no wires other then the stator wires that keep the scrammy running.All the rest of the wires have been cut off.

 

The switch on your shifter is screwed up. It is not kicking the reverse light off. As long as the reverse light is on the rev limiter will stay on.

 

so where is the switch? i could just be frozen... its really cold right now... and last time i rode it i didn't have this problem....

but anyway where is the switch so i can tell? is it in the rear gear box?

 

The switch is on the shifter linkage. Polaris has a
micrifiche diagram at their website.

 

it is in the shifter up front.
