Top speed on 06 500 efi?
#1
I am getting about 53 mph out of my new 500efi. I think it may go a couple more miles per hour if I had more room, but does this sound about right or do you think it is a little low. I just traded my 05 700efi in for the 500 efi and thought I may have some clutch problems because the 500 seemed to run about 1000 more rpm's at 25mph than my 700 did. My dealer checked it and said it was ok and he showed me in the manual where the 500's are geared lower than the 700 twins. I could care less about top speed, but just wondering if 53 or 55 sounded about right. Thank you for your responses.

I get 57 on the speedo with my 05 500 ho (carb). It has alot of extra weight, but 55 to 60 is about right for any of the 500's carb or efi. EFI shouldn't give you anymore topspeed than a carb. You may get there a tad faster as the efi should have better throttle response making it quicker out the whole but topend is the same. The 06 500ho carb can be tweaked to run faster with a few mods than any other late model 500, because it doesn't have EBS.

I have to ask, why did you trade a 700efi for a 500efi? Other than the extremely tough Fuji engine in the 500 the gas mileage would be your only benefit. Anyway, how much of a power difference is there in the 500 and your old 700? You have the 06, so you have the 800 primary, however, if I were you, I might would still drop a heel clicker in it. Man it did wonders for my 05 500ho. I am running the Heelclicker with a EPI maroon primary spring.

stendori,
60mph on a stock 500ho riding 2up. Well, I'm not saying it is entirely impossible, however, you'd be the first to ever report such a number. First is your 500 stock? Next, how much do u guys weigh, 100lbs each? Last, are you getting this speed from the speedo on the bike or a GPS reading? I have a friend with a 02 500ho that has modified his to the limit, including boring the block, changing the clutch out with a non ebs, jet kit, hotseat performance kit, and tons more. It is the fastest 500 I've ever heard of and he gets 56mph riding 2up on pavement. About 64 riding solo.

sdbowhunter,
I understand and have to agree with you. When I baught 05 back in March I could have got the 700 carb for $300 more, however, the reliability, durability, and fact that the Fuji engine is second to none, including Honda is what meant more. Plus I took the $300 and baught a Heelclicker and a few more mods. Now, I will challenge any 700 in the mud. This thing is a flat out pulling machine. I ride with a group of guys that have Honda rincon, Yamaha grizz, Zuki KQ 700, Polaris 400, 500, 700, and they all agree mine is the strongest in the mud now that I have the HC kit.

Yeah, report back after you do that GPS check! I ride with guys that have older 500's. All the way back to 1996, and NOBODY will do 60 riding 2up. If you can, more power to ya, but you're claiming you can run with a Grizzly 660 now, and well I know better. Hey I too have a 500, so if it were capable, I use this as bragging rights for the 500. In any model of 500 sportsman the fastest stock speed ever reported with a gps is about 60mph, with one rider. 63, well keep thinking that man......... Go report that in the polaris forum on www.atvquadsquad.com
