I have noticed a tickin from the engine. Only notice I hear is when let of the throttle then hit it again, but this could be due to my clutch kit. However, all my freinds polaris do this also. I have heard many others in forums say what you're saying, and they say it is normal.

colt2245p,
No, you said quote " outrun" . In the woods, alot of it comes down to driver skills, however, both being skilled drivers I will agree the stock sportsman can outperform the grizz, more ground cleareance, suspension travel, better stock tires, heavier bike, etc. I too know this from experience, but that's not what the topic is about nor what we were talkin about. TOP SPEED!!!!

sdbowhunter,
If you haven't done so already, go to www.atvquadsquad.com and become a member (free), then ask about this in the polaris forum. Matman, Cob, Cajun, ATVer and a few others are polaris gurues and will be able to help you with anything you have to ask. I too know quite a bit, but learned most of it from these guys. Trust me, it's will be worth your time!!! This is also were yo can pickup the Heelclicker kit for $160 from COB. He works hand and hand with Dan at Heelclicker.

in the woods i will buy a 500 can keep up with a Grizz,,,you can only go so fast trail riding in the woods (atleast here anyway),,,the trails in the woods here have ruts here and there as well
but anyway me ,and one freind ,he on his 500 were both going ***** out on the trails one day racing back to the house,,,we were switching back, and forth on lead (some trails have two entry's) so that is possible

I have been browsing atvquadsquad.com for awhile, but never signed up to be a member. I will have to sign up over their, sounds like a good bunch of guys. I'll have to keep the clutch kit in mind. What gains do you get with the heelclicker kit, is it low, mid or high. Thanks

i have 15 3/4 inches to the bottom of the footwell,i gained 1/4 inch shy of a full 4 inchs between the lift kit,and the 27" wheel kit,,,,i have cut NO plastic, and have zero tire rub
if you are planning on going larger than 27" wheel kit,i strongly recomend a 14" wheel kit to reduce the amount of sidewall on your tire,,,,what this does is reduces the "spongy" feeling that the very large wheel kits can produce,,,,,27's are fine,,,the 6ply tire stiffins the sidewall of the tire enough to counteract the amount of sidewall to reduce the spongy feeling
i added the 1.5 wheel spacers on all 4 corners to counteract the heigth, and when finished, noticed minimal change in handling characteristics,,,,,i was expecting the thing to be scary, but honostly,it is a very small amount of differance,,,but there is some,,,,,but ive had it all together for a few months now,and am very use to it again, dont even notice it anymore it was so minimal
while researching which kit to get i came accross some other brands that had horrible customer reviews (in forums),and was almost discouraged from doing it,but the High lifter brand kept boasting "no Change" in handling,,,,,as i said, there was some, but nothing what folks that installed other brands were complaining about
so if your thinking about it,go with the High Lifter brand,,,,,also they make spring kits that will raise, but they drastically change the ride,,,they are mainly for a "payload" upgrade so if your not looking to extend your payload, and just want more ground clearance,,,steer clear of the "spring kits"
also,,,,im not sure about the Polaris, and the lift kit,,,,but for my Grizz,i had to go to Gorrilla axles (at $350 a pop) due to the increase angle of the axle, would bind the OEM axle knucle wearing them in a short period of time
the lift kit itself is brackets the basically lengthin your shock, which forces the frame up,,,a little pain to install on the rears, but fairly easy on the fronts,,,,i think it took me by myself around 3 hours to do the job
hope this helps,im getting a 500 Scrammy this Spring (keeping the Grizz,of course) for something a lil more sporty to get goofy on,and still have 4x4 so i'll be in the Polris forum a little more then,,,,,later
