700 carb kit
#1
what jet is anyone running in the 700 carb? I dont think my 146 (dynojet) is any better than my stock 155? I know that that the dynojet # is different than stock due to the different meter needle . help?

The Dyno jets and measured by the diameter of the hole where Mikuni jets are measured by flow.
Here is a chart.

Well it has alot to do with the needle that comes with the Dyno jet kit. I have a dyno jet kit in my 700 and thought the same thing your are thinking when I was installing it. So I callled Dyno jet to see what was up and they told me that the needle is has a smaller taper vs. the stock needle. I love the dyno jet kit it made alot of difference in my 700.

With the stock set up on my 03 700 I was running the DJ142 with the needle set at the second groove and the mixture screw at 1.5 turns out and it made a noticable difference over stock - better cold starting, and throttle response. Now that I've installed the 800 header and air intake I'm running the DJ144 jet, needle at the third groove and 1.75 out on the mixture screw and I'm very happy with the performance.
I don't spend a lot of time at WOT where the main jet size has the greatest effect but I'm a bit concerned that I may be too lean based on what jet size everyone else is running.

Its on the front bottom of the carb and is covered by a brass plug. You will have to remove the plug to adjust the screw.

as stated in last reply from sportsman70003, find brass plug and use a 5/32 drill bit to remove plug no harm done. But I am wondering?????? how does the throttle linkage cables become "off" from the carb? all the adjustments and mods (on trail and off) have been done with carb still sorta attached to linkage /cables.?

1. Remove the plastic cover on the left side of the carb, it has four screws securing it.
2. Open the throttle to the WOT position and hold it open at the carb. I just use my thumb in the carb bore to hold the throttle plate open, I'm sure there are a number of ways to accomplish this so find what suits you. The bottom line is that you need to to have slack in the throttle cable to remove it from the throttle arm.
3. Pull the throttle cable out of the groove in the throttle arm until it lines up with the slot next to the brass retainer and lift the cable and retainer from the throttle arm.
4. Remove the retainer from the cable end, unscrew the throttle cable fitting from the carb body and your done.
This is how it's done on an 03 700 I hope it's the same for your 04.
