My starter was hanging up and then wouldn't engage at all when it was cold. I removed the starter drive and cleaned it up. It worked fine in the warm garage but when it sat outside in -10 overnight it wouldn't engage and the starter just spins without engaging. So now I'm going to have to remove the starter to check that out.

Can anyone tell me how to get the two bolts out to remove the starter? There are two bolts that hold the starter on but one of them is right up against the belt housing and I can't see how that one bolt will come out without removing the belt housing. I had it all the way loose but it would not clear the starter housing. Surely there must be a way.

I put a new starter on mine last year and I didn't remove the cover. Can't recall just what i did. I rembember it was hard to get at. Good luck
