Predator 500 Vs. Raptor 660
#1
I realize the Rappy is a 660 and the Predator is 500, but the Predator is alot lighter, I believe. So my question is, which gives you more bang for your buck? Which has the better power to weight ratio?

I will say that the predator has more bang for your buck. It also has a better power to weight ratio, but not only that it comes with WAY better parts. such as Fox shocks, maxxis tires, and douglas aluminum rims. I wouldnt even think about getting a 660. They are underpowered, top heavy, and VERY uncomfortable to ride. This is my opinion though, and i suggest you asking this question in the bombardier or kawasaki forums just so you wont get a biased opinion. You will get one answer in the Yamaha forums and a totally different one in the Polaris forums.

i find it hard to say that its hard to do wheelies on the predator, cuz when im dragging i can bearly keep the front tires on the ground, let alone not wheelie, maybe its just cuz i have the TLD gearbox. but i fully agree that the 660 has alot more torque, mainly the larger piston, but i really have to say the 'tippyness' of the 660 aside its really a hard decision

This comparison has been beat to death, but here is my .02. They are very close in acceleration and top speed. The raptor has a lot more torque than the Predator. The Predator has much better handling and is more stable. The Rappy is narrower, which helps through the tight spots in the woods, but its tippyness is evident as more body english is used to keep it from two-wheeling in the corners. The 660 has more mods available if you want to go that route, but there is still plenty of aftermarket support for the Preddy. As for the suspension aspect, the Pred clearly wins this battle. There is nothing wrong with the Rappy's suspension, but it can't stand up to the Predator's fox suspension. The 660 actually isn't any lighter, despite its lower dry weight. Yamaha is just giving us BS numbers . Here is my argument. The Raptor's dry weight is 398, while the Pred's is 415. They have the same size gas tank, the Pred holds slightly more oil, while the 660 holds slightly more coolant. But the Predator actually has a lower wet weight of 444 vs. 451lbs for the Raptor. When it is all said and done the Predator has better bang-for-the buck with better handling, superior suspension and a heavy duty axle. Good luck on your decision.
