H.O. cam in 425 Xpedition --3 hours+$159..HOT!

It went right in. It was pretty easy. Nothing taken off but the seat, sidepanels, 3 cam-covers and a thermostat/coolant fitting. The only hiccup was the decompression device on the end of the cam, which has to be set up just right. I got it right on the first... and third attempt.
I kept the Sprocket wired up tight, with the chain tensioner relaxed so I didn't have to retime the cam. I did adjust the valves,.006,
which was easy. Neat little cylinder head/valve/rocker assembly, 4-valve, one cam, three lobes,three rockers, center rocker is a double, clever.
It pulls much stronger through upper mid-range and revs a little higher and quicker. I think the cam is a pretty good bang for the buck. I think furthur mods are indicated like K&N filter, Supertrapp, maybe a 38mm carb.
The cam came from AAEN, $159+. Polaris dealers seem to be backordered till Jan. because of H.O. wanna-bees. AAEN also has a long duration cam for $259+. These cams fit all the 425 and 500 Polaris current model 4-strokes.
The 425 EXP is a good quad for someone who wants to shift, wants a good sturdy rig that will go anywhere and do anything, and then cook it up pretty good on the way home.

Sounds like a good deal. Especially since you had the know-how to do it yourself & not have to pay the $$$$$ per hour a dealer would charge. I hope you didn't lose any of the low-speed chug the 425s were famous for. Of course, you could always shift down if you did and make up for it in the midrange. Good post. Now I am afraid the HO cams will be backordered for that much longer hehe

Okay, here's some drag racing results. These aren't timed but we use the same field to test our new rigs and modifications. The field is about a 100+ yards long, so the actual race is about 50 yds. This is 425EXP with the H.O. cam which I put in yesterday VS. my new Silver H.O. Sportsman with a white clutch spring. The H.O. is handicapped by my weight, 210 lbs. vs my 12 year old's 80 lbs on the EXP.
I had formerly cleaned his clock, beating him by 3-5 lengths on my old 2000 SP (with 48gram clutch weights and white spring) This time out,
as long as he started in 2nd gear, the best I could do was 1-2 lengths. If he started in first gear I could get about 3-4 lengths on him.
SO,unscientifically speaking, I would say that putting a H.O. cam in you 425EXP makes it about as fast as a 2000 Sportsman. Neither of these quads has any muffler mods and both still have stock paper air cleaners. Santa, are you listening?
We didn't switch and try it, but we had previously with the 2000 SP and his EXP. He, on the SP and me on his EXP beat me by 7-8 lengths,
but I think I started in 1st gear.
The only thing better than the H.O. cam is weighing in at 80 lbs!!
