Talk about frozen lakes.. For the next 4 days, we are about 350 miles north of Mich, Hearst Ontario. Everything is frozen up here!! Seems like you can't go a mile without seeing a lake

This morning I went outside and walked all carefully, thinking I was going to break through. So I drilled a few test holes with the ice auger, and I have about 7 inches of good ice. So I got the plow on the fourwheeler and made a huge ice rink, only thing is the surface is a little rough from the freezing rain last week. So I need a cold night so I can flood the ice with our submersible pump.

looking good so far though, 7 inches of ice by new year's isnt that bad.

And anyone wondering about ice safety, hereis a good site. But it is really meant for large truck convoys, so the warnings saying "stay off the ice" in certain conditions don't always apply. it is amazing how much weight ice can hold -- 4 inches holds a ton, 16 inches holds 20 tons. That's a lot of weight!

Tyler, Thats a good site. It's amazing how much weight ice will hold. I also recommend getting a pair of ice rescue picks to carry just in case you fall through the ice. They can be a life saver

I've seen those picks before, and have considered them. 99% of my ice riding is within 100 feet of my camp, with dozens of people around. But still a very good idea.
