Default changes in 96-97 400 cylinder

hey guys-
Does the cylinder from a 96 Scrambler 400 fit a 97 Scrambler engine? I know the piston was changed mid year 1996, but did the cylinder change also? Thanks.

I put a mild ported 96 jug on my 97 Sport. It worked just like the stock one.

thanks 16polaris. However, you may have a late model 96 model jug that had received the updated piston. I want to know if the cylinder was updated with the piston or if it stayed the same.

I think the updated piston goes with the cylinders that had boost ports added. 97-late 96.

yes, only the '95 400 scrammy was with the jug as the 400 explorer
back then,'96 and newer 400 got the redesigned cylinder with a little
wider ports and such,a few more flow through the engine giving
a little more power, piston are all the same tough.
