Now that it's hunting season in a lot of places most of us worry somewhat about the possibility of getting shot while riding.I am wondering if there has been an ACTUAL case of a 4 wheeler rider being shot while riding by a hunter.I hear of ocassional hunting accident's where one hunter shoots another...Never heard about one involving an atv rider....I know that the more shooters in the woods the more likely an accident is to happen, but how often does it actually happen???

In Michigan, hunters have access to thousands of miles of hunting in our woods, while ATVers have only a few DESIGNATED ATV trails in comparison to the areas the hunters can hunt.

Im a firm beleiver in not allowing hunters within one mile [either side] of our designated ATV trails during hunting season. Now im certainly not anti hunting,im a hunter myself, however,it is a very uneasy feeling crossing the path of someone with a gun when riding my ATV.

To date,I've not heard of anyone on an ATV being shot, hope it stays that way,
Bill

ATV RIDERS, I strongly suggest wearing blaze orange during hunting season.

One of the reasons the wife and I got yeller ones. Visability! Actually the Chickenman brought the safety factor up one day. That Chickenman is one smart dude!

Here in Utah it happened this season, an out of state hunter from California shot a man sitting on a 4 wheeler. The man was seriously injured, but lived. He said "The guy looked right at me, I couldn't believe he shot me". Ouch!
They said the thing that saved him was he was hit in his pocket where he was carrying bullets, they slowed the bullet considerably. It's times like this I am glad my machine is fast and noisy!

Hi RdrD
Iam a avid hunter.a hunter should always be sure what he is shooting at and beyond. but accedents do happen.there is no excuse for shooting someone while hunting. hope it never happens.

A hunter riding his atv in our state this season was shot by another hunter w/ a 300 Magnum rifle. Dont know the details, other than the fellow lived. Another atv/hunting incident happened in our state this October in which the hunter was killed. He wasnt shot, but was elk hunting and riding up a rather steep hill. He flipped the atv over on himself thus perishing. Be careful folks.

Up in the mountains where I do most of my riding, I run into alot of deer and elk hunters. They usually hear and see me long before I see them. I have never heard of anyone getting shot by accident or on purpose. However, some of the enviromental extremists in my area have been known to spread piano wire in between trees on bike/ATV trails. I try to keep my eyes open for that! I know of a couple of different guys that have been hurt that way!

We have been thinking of going up to Ontario to do a week of riding this summer. Any suggestions on your part?
